Our festival is being participated by both Metro-Manila based artists and artist based in the regions, and international guests from Japan and Spain, and a dance critic from France. It is truly a "wi-fi body" where all are working independently but connected to the greater idea of dance - a contemporary dance network initiated in the Philippines.

Our festival pass entitles to the holder to all performances, workshops and activities in the amount of P1,800.

There is also a day pass which entitles the holder to all performances and the workshop for the day in the amount of P500.

SIGNATURE

Signature features works that have the respective dance artist's undeniable stamp - dance with a highly personal artistic vision.

In celebration of performance venue Dance Forum’s instrumental role in defining independent dance practice in the Philippines, “Signature” will be staged there on Nov. 17 and 18.

To be showcased are contemporary dance artists Myra Beltran and Paul Morales in signature pieces as well as the works of the winners of the recently concluded Wi_fi Body Festival's New Choreographers Competition, the first choreography competition for the solo-duet form in the Philippines.

An alternative, intimate and open-air performance venue, Dance Forum was founded by Beltran in 1995. She is a leading figure in Philippine independent dance, conceptualizing and leading the World Dance Alliance-Philippine s Choreographers' Network in the groundbreaking Contemporary Dance Map Series and the Wi_fi Body Festival at the Cultural Center of the Philippines that has supported choreographers and dancers in the independent contemporary dance scene in the Philippines.

“Ten years ago, Dance Forum opened publicly,” said Beltran. “At that time, independent dance practice in the Philippines necessarily had to be contemporary in approach and aesthetic. The direction has subsequently developed in many branching streams, but the idea of the solo dance, and all its political implications in the history of dance, is an important step in any ground-breaking dance movement. We want to celebrate and commemorate that idea all over again.”

Working through the birthing pains of establishing the idea of “solo artist” or “solo dance,” Beltran has successfully laid the foundations for the understanding and appreciation for this performing art form. “Now I can proudly say that the idea stands on solid ground and that, as a matter of fact, it is a privilege to do solo dance work,” she said. “This ‘rebellion,’ this ‘signature’ is what we want to celebrate – a celebration of the spirit that opened up Dance Forum to house independent contemporary dance, with a new generation of artists carrying on the practice.”

On April 21 and 22 8 pm at AIRDANCE, diverse choreographic voices will converge in HIGHWAY 54, the dance company’s latest studio show. It features distinct kinetic explorations by resident Airdance choreographers; Paul Morales, Avel Bautista and Jethro Pioquinto with guest dance maker Herbert Alvarez of the UP Dance Co., as performed by the AIRDANCE students and company dancers.

This contemporary dance performance will venture into the fast lane of the mythical Highway 54, a melting pot of ideas and cultural influences, a metaphor for the increasing acceleration of communication today and dynamics of quantum change in today’s global village. Highway 54 is the name of many roads including the famous one in Texas as well as being the former name of our very own EDSA. EDSA was constructed in 1940 by engineers led by Florencio Moreno and Osmundo L. Monsod, and first named as North and South Circumferential Road. But at the end of World War II, the American occupiers changed the name to Highway 54. It was in n 1959, by virtue of Republic Act 2140, that the highway was renamed in honor of historian Epifanio de los Santos.

Dancing Wounded Contemporary Dance Commune brings you another hybrid,
trans-disciplinary event featuring Afro Latin/World Music Percussion Expert Bo Razon leading the
Percussion classes with Dancing Wounded facilitating the joy of dancing in Summer Karnabal
Drum and Dance Class.

Summer Karnabal is an introductory class for anyone who is interested
to know the rudiments of playing percussion instruments. Razon, one of the country's leading
percussion gurus, takes the lead while Dancing Wounded stretches the principle of percussion
playing and guides the participants into the re-discovery of their own rhythm and natural urge for
movement and dancing.

The Class is also beneficial for:

- dancers who want to understand more about the concept of rhythm and address
problems in musicality
- actors who yet have to discover the importance of rhythm and its
role in creating characters, delivering

The Aida Gomez Flamenco Company's provocative
restaging of Georges Bizet's Carmen is expected
to dazzle Manila's discriminating dance
connoisseurs and enthusiasts.

The multi-awarded Gomez became the youngest
artistic director of Spanish National Ballet in 1981.
a year earlier, she had been honored with the Max
Scenic Art Prize for the best female dancer as the
lead in her production of Falla's "El Sombrero de
Tres Picos," the inaugural show of Madrid's Teatro
Real.

In 2001, Gomez founded her own company and
staged its debut performance of "Salome," under
the brilliant film director Carlos Saura. She was
awarded the prestigious National Dance Award in
2004.

In Carmen, Gomez combines flamenco and
Spanish classical dance in a performance that
always enthralls audiences.

BODY POLITICS brings back our focus to the body: as dancer, mediator of our primal grief and aspiration, and as canvas, the very battleground where politics plays out.

The BODY POLITICS Dance Season heralds a new breed of choreographer and dancer. Young artists culled from the independent dance movement presenting new, fresh, innovative and daring dance works. Held at the studio space, this series of intimate performances afford the audience a special seat to witness and partake of new dance.

AIRDANCE is a Philippine dance company composed of choreographers, professional dancers and dance teachers trained in various forms, including jazz, hip-hop, breakdance, martial arts, modern, and classical ballet. Through a fusion of styles, the company is geared towards a Modern/Contemporary performing art, exploring the limitless possibilities that their individual and collective talents can achieve.

Airdance's first major concert, "Indios Bravos" held last February 26, 2004, was met with acclaim for its innovative telling of Rizal's travels in relation to the struggles of today's OFW's. The show was restaged last June 6, 2005, for the French Spring Manila 2005 celebrations in cooperation with the French Embassy Manila.

The company was awarded as the "Best Young Contemporary Dance Theater Company in the Philippines" when it won the 3rd Mindanao Modern Dance Competition in Koronadal City, South Cotabato last July 2004. Airdance was part of the Philippine delegation that opened the World Expo 2005 in Nagoya, Japan. The company also represented the Philippines in the 7th Asia Arts Festival held in Foshan, Guandong, China held last November, 2005.

Airdance was one of the leading companies in the celebration of the International Dance Week with the Contemporary Dance Map 2005 and 2006. Its featured show, "R-18: Bold Contemporary Dance" (2005), was applauded for its varied and experimental pieces. Airdance’s “Carmen de la Cruz”, a Pinoy take on Bizet’s Carmen, was a featured show in the recently concluded “WiFi Body: Philippine Independent Contemporary Dance Festival 1” held last August 17-20 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The company has been operating its Dance School and conducting its annual Summer Dance Workshop at its studio in order to bring dance training to amateur and serious dance enthusiasts. Our company members have participated in dance workshops and conferences in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, and Austria. The company has also been involved in numerous commercial endeavors such as corporate productions, musical events, fashion shows, concerts, product launches and movies.

Having established itself as one of the country's pioneering Contemporary Dance companies, Airdance is celebrating its fifth year with “BODY POLITICS: A Season of New Dance”, a showcase of original and experimental choreographies, at its dance studio-theater at the Outlet Yard, 1480 Quezon Ave., Quezon City, from July to September 2006.
